Dermot is joining ARX FINANCIAL ENGINEERING Limited ("ARX") in a capacity of a Head of Ethical Finance. He is an Irish and English qualified lawyer and holder of the CIMA Diploma in Islamic Finance and the CIMA Advanced Diploma in Islamic Finance. After several years in private practice in Dublin he moved to Dubai to work as a Shari’ah expert in Amanie Advisors LLC as a Shari’ah consultant in various areas of Islamic finance. His clients included international banks, fund managers, government related entities, Takaful companies, family offices and fully fledged Islamic banks. The Amanie Shari’ah Supervisory Board comprised of Dr Elgari, Dr Qattan, Dr Al Derai and Dr Bakar (and Dr Abu Ghudda for one client).

After Amanie he moved to an in-house role with Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank (“CACIB”) as its global Shari’ah Governance Officer where he was responsible for providing Shari’ah advisory, Shari’ah review, Shari’ah audit, Shari’ah training and Shari’ah Secretariat services to CACIB and he assisted it’s Shari’ah Supervisory Board (consisting of Sheikh Nizam, Dr Elgari and Dr Bakar) in managing Shari’ah compliance risk.
